History of the AFRATAPEM

 

« Whilst it is true that the Arts and medical treatment have been linked together since the origins of Humanity, it is since the 20th Century that a pure Medical discipline has been recognised »

1976 : Creation of the AFRATAPEM. Highlighting the importance of Artistic activity as a singular means of therapeutic intervention and analysis in the treatment process.

 

1986 : A distinction between Psychotherapy using the artistic process and Arts Therapy is made clear during an International conference in Limoges, France. The idea of Art opératoire finds its place in Arts Therapy. The ideas put forward by the AFRATAPEM are commonly recognised as the Ecole d’Art-Thérapie de Tours amongst the Scientific Community.

 

1988 : Based on work undertaken by the AFRATAPEM, the first French University Diploma in Arts Therapy is set-up at the Tours School of Medicine.

 

2002 : Responding to increased recognition of the AFRATAPEM, the École d’Art Thérapie de Tours – School of Arts Therapy, Tours, France is officially inaugurated by the governing body of the AFRATAPEM.

 

2003 : Collaboration between the AFRATAPEM – Sorbonne University, Paris.

 

2005 : Following work carried out by the Ecole d’Art-Thérapie de Tours, the setting-up of a second University Diploma in Arts Therapy at the School of Medicine and Pharmacy,  Poitiers.

 

2005 : Following work carried out by the Ecole d’Art-Thérapie de Tours, the setting-up of a European University Diploma in Arts Therapy at the Université Européenne du Travail , Brussels, Belgium.

 

2006 : 30th Anniversary of the AFRATAPEM :International Congress of Arts Therapy (700 participants) under the patronage of the French Minister of Culture and Communication.

 

2007 : National Lecture Tour following publication of the Actes du Congrès International d’Art-Thérapie published by éditions Elsevier-Masson.
