Summary of module 23 – Tours 14/15 Oct 2006
« What role for Arts therapy in the History of Therapies and their principal Schools of thought. »
As with other forms of therapy, the existence of Arts Therapy is proceeded by a construction built mainly upon pre-existing conceptual and theoretical choices as well as improvements brought about through practice. The aim of this module was to study past case notes and develop opinions in relationship to them.
The course started with a presentation of the different and main approaches towards Therapy in order to find similarities in aims, as well as means as a way of improving the definition of the specificity and originality of Arts Therapy and its ability to be complementary to other forms of Therapy. This was followed by a presentation on the History of the Tours School of Arts Therapy, given by its founder, Richard Forestier, who was able to put the clocks back 30 years and communicate to us the essence of the Course. This enabled the participants to define the particular form of Arts Therapy they practice and develop future Research projects.
This module bridged the past and the future, a future to be built mainly on the ideas of Arts Therapists trained by the various Schools which may lead to the setting-up of a National, even Europe-wide Arts Therapy Qualification based upon the different Schools and Methods of Arts Therapy. There is a long road ahead, but it seems to be a noble project.
Themes in preparation
Module 26 – Tours 13-14/10/2007 « Vocabulary and definitions »
The experience of the sum of our exchanges in the last 8 years shows the importance of common vocabulary and definitions if we wish to pursue our Research with precision and efficiency.
The goal of this module is to reflect upon the principal terms requiring definition for professional Arts Therapists : Art, Therapy, Deontology, Therapeutic Framework, Human Relations as well as Music, Consciousness, Aesthetics. Practical experience in the workplace may at times alter the theoretical meaning taught during initial training, which is why we offer this process of reflection and updating.
In order that this module be as effective as possible, we ask participants to reflect upon the definition of terms that seem most important to cover on the course.
Finally, as with
each module, you are invited to present Regional specialities, on Saturday
evening, thus enriching our experience and adding warmth to the meeting.
